Loadshedding NOT the cause of Gautrain being stuck

On Tuesday afternoon, the Gautrain made headlines as it got stuck under the Sandton tunnel. This resulted in 47 passengers being stuck for nearly two hours.

While everyone’s initial thoughts were to blame Eskom’s loadshedding, Bombela, who are the operators of the Gautrain, said that instead, the train had a power failure of its own.

Black Business Council calls for Eskom CEO axing

Right after the stage 4 loadshedding announcement, the Black Business Council (BBC) called for Eskom’s CEO André de Ruyter to step down.

According to BBC’s CEO, Kganki Matabane, Eskom’s “inability to deal decisively with loadshedding for the two years since its ‘renewal'” is De Ruyter’s fault.

Eskom CEO, André de Ruyter, speaks out amid calls to step down

After calls have been made known for de Ruyter to step down, he says that he does not intend to resign of his own accord. And he adds that changing a “jockey on a dead horse won’t really solve the problem”.

“It is probably more important to have continuity of management than to fall back in the trap Eskom has been in the past 10 years when we had 11 different chief executives,” said De Ruyter.
