Jacob Zuma warns of another “unrest” as he applies for postponement in court yet again
Former South African President Jacob Zuma, is once again trying to postpone the delayed corruption trial. And his legal team is reportedly willing to take matters all the way to Constitutional Court.
It seems that Judge Piet Koen has been “reminded” of the unrest that came after Zuma was imprisoned in 2021. Zuma’s lawyers told the judge to be “aware” of the incident when deciding whether this case should once again be postponed.
And according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga, any further delay of the case, would not be in the best interest of “any party”.
Warning of “unavoidable” price hikes for chickens
Due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, “unavoidable” chicken price increases are in the near future. And according to the managing director of RCL Foods’ chicken division, both the producers and consumers will be impacted heavily.
The maize and soybeans that are critical for feed are produced in Ukraine. However, because of the invasion, the farmers won’t be planting any new crops – resulting in price hikes.
City of Ekurhuleni and Joburg talks about tariff increases
The City of Ekurhuleni expressed their want to increase the prices of water and sanitation by 11%, starting from 1 July. And The City of Joburg has proposed a 9.75% increase for both utilities.
And both metros proposed to increase the electricity tariffs by 9.61%
