The general secretary of the SA Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu), Zwelinzima Vavi, and his wife Noluthando, could lose their multimillion-rand home in Morningside Manor in Johannesburg after the bank approached the court to have it put up for auction.
Vavi and his wife could potentially lose their R2 million home in Johannesburg after Standard Bank approached the court to have the house put up for auction. City Press reported that an application was brought to the Johannesburg High Court a week ago by Standard Bank which claims that the politician and his wife owed more than R100 000 in areas.
However, Vavi’s wife Noluthando Vavi said they had no knowledge of the court papers and only became aware of the court papers when City Press made a request for their R2 million rupees, which they purchased in 2008.
The affidavit claims that Vavi and his wife are in areas in their monthly bond repayments.
“The applicant made various attempts to engage with the respondents to regularise the home loan amount, to no avail. As a result of the respondent’s breach of the home loan agreement, the applicant’s attorneys delivered a letter of demand to the respondents on or about 7 February 2022.”
According to the testimony, the couple signed an agreement with the bank on December 10, 2008, in which the parties agreed that the home loan would be paid within a period of 360 months with monthly payments of R24, 491,12.
