Kidnapped Nkangala municipal manager Maggie Skhosana and her driver Gugu Mtsweni were found alive on Wednesday evening in Diepsloot.

The due was allegdedly kidnapped by a group of people who were wearing police uniforms last week.

In a video circulated by the Mpumalanga provincial government this morning, Premier Mtshweni -Tsipane said the due have been rescued and looked unharmed.

“We can say that from physical analysis, Skhosana is fine. Emotionally, obviously there is the trauma that goes with kidnapping. You can appreciate the magnitude of the trauma that they have been through. She was found around the N14, that is what we know up to this far,” she said.

“There is still some work that needs to be done. Of importance now is to ensure that they get well, they are being attended accordingly, in line with requirements set out by the police. Immediately after that, they will be integrated back to their families. Perhaps we need to give them space with their loved ones.”

Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the police spokesperson said they were found just before midnight on Wednesday.

They had allegedly bee dumped by their assailants in the bushes near the N14 road in Diepsloot, he said.

Mtsweni was “tied with some ropes but she somehow managed to manoeuvre to the road”.

“A taxi driver saw her as she was looking for help. She related the story to the taxi driver who immediately informed the police. The police then went with them to the bushes where the municipal manager was found.”

Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the provincial police commissioner of the Mpumalanga police has expressed her gratitude to all members from both Gauteng DPCI and Mpumalanga as well as the taxi driver who acted as a good Samaritan upon seeing the municipal manager’s driver calling for help on the road.

Mdhluli said investigation is still continuing and they are asking anyone who can help bring the kidnappers to book to contact their nearest police station.
