Mariah Carey previously faced a 20 million lawsuit from singer Andy Stone after claims of copyright infringement.
All I Want For Christmas is You lawsuit dismissed
Right now, People reports that Andy Stone has decided to drop the lawsuit in which the independent artist sought 20 million in damages for using the song title without his permission.
Many artists currently have song titles of the same name. So it is unclear if this is the only grounds on which Andy Stone sought to sue Mariah Carey.
The artist previously stated that the singer wrongfully monetized on the song title. He added that the Touch My Body singer never approached him for permission to use the song title.
Thus far, Andy Stone released his hit in the 1980s while Mariah Carey released her track in the 1990s. Her song has since reached immense success after being certified Diamond by the RIAA for selling 10 million copies. Her track is the only Christmas song that has been certified diamond to date.
Mariah Carey kicks off the festive season early
Previously, Andy Stone expressed that he has reached out to Mariah Carey and her team about the copyright infringement but with no success. This past June, the singer took the active step of suing Carey after multiple failed attempts to get her to cooperate.
However, Andy Stone recently sought to dismiss the 20 million lawsuits without prejudice, which according to People means it can be brought up again. The reasons for this action are currently unbeknownst to the publication.
To date, Mariah Carey’s hit Christmas song is reportedly one of the most played Christmas songs throughout November and December every year.
On November 2nd, Mariah Carey officially released her children’s book titled The Christmas Princess. The book currently has some similarities to the singer’s previous life but is not an autobiography in any sense.
