Jamie Lee Curtis is a name and face recognised all over the world. And even though she is the daughter of two film icons, she has certainly managed to make a name for herself in Hollywood over the last four decades.
Originally gaining the title as a “scream queen” from her debut films, Curtis has gone on to prove her versatility in a range of genres. Here are a few highlights in her acting career:
Halloween (1978)
This film was the beginning of everything for Curtis as it launched her career and established her as an iconic “scream queen”. The film was also the first of eleven sequels, of which Curtis starred in three.
Trading Places (1983)
After being associated only with the “scream queen” category, Trading Places proved Curtis’ ability to portray a comedic role.
This film also gave her her first Golden Globe nomination and a BAFTA win.
A Fish Called Wanda (1989)
Known as one of Curtis’s “finest performances“, she showed her more alluring side as she plays Wanda Gershwitz, a sultry and seducing con artist.
A Fish Called Wanda was also a hit during the awards season as Curtis was nominated for both a Golden Globe and BAFTA award.
True Lies (1994)
True Lies gave Curtis the opportunity to showcase her acting skills as she “transforms from a nervous, self-doubting woman into an alluring, self-assured partner“.
The film was a hit and even won Curtis her second Golden Globe.
Freaky Friday (2003)
Freaky Friday is a classic that will always be great. Curtis is hysterical as she plays the teenager trapped in her mother’s body and earned her 6th Golden Globe nomination for the role.
Knives Out (2019)
One of her more recent films is the “stylish whodunit” film, Knives Out. Curtis is brilliant as one of the dysfunctional family members wanting to get their hands on her father’s fortune.
The film won several critics’ awards and has a great star-packed cast.
