How Noah Schnapp came out as gay
In a TikTok video posted on Thursday, Noah Schnapp got candid with his followers about his sexuality. After being in the closet for 18 years, the actor finally decided to spill the beans on how he came out to his family and friends.
The teen who recently reprised his role as Will Byers in season 4 of Stranger Things, captioned the bottom of his video with, “I guess I’m more similar to Will than I thought.”
The caption in the video read, “When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was ‘we know.'”
In the short clip, Noah Schnapp lip-syncs to a voice-over in the video. The audio says, “You know what it never was? That serious. It never was that serious. Quite frankly, will never be that serious.”

After three successful seasons, Stranger Things returned in 2022 with season four. This time, the actors and actresses are pretty much in their adolescence stage. Simultaneously, the plot of the story has grown with the character.
The actor puts speculation on Will Byers to rest
In essence, the character played by Noah Schnapp has also done significant growth. With more information being given on the character in season 4.
Right now, all Stranger Things fans would remember Will Byers giving Mike advice on his relationship with Eleven (played by Millie Bobbie Brown). In this particular instance, some fans would have already guessed that the character was gay, given his emotional response after his speech.
By July 2022, Noah Schnapp put all the speculation to rest, by revealing that Will Byers is in fact gay. In an interview with Variety, the actor shared some details on the fourth season of the series.
“Obviously, it was hinted at in Season 1: It was always kind of there, but you never really knew, is it just him growing up slower than his friends? Now that he’s gotten older, they made it a very real, obvious thing. Now it’s 100% clear that he is gay and he does love Mike.”
