Henry Cavill may have broken some hearts in his recent announcement to his Superman fans.
As some may recall, Henry Cavill previously revealed that he will be putting on his superhero cape once again in a new Superman film in the making. While the actor did make a cameo in the post-credits scene of Black Adam, it’s been a while since fans got another Superman film.
Henry Cavill departs from his role as Superman
Unfortunately, there has been a change of plan as the writers of the film have taken a new direction in terms of the storyline of the new movie.
In a post to his Instagram, Henry Cavill revealed to his followers that he will not be returning as Superman in the new DC film. As there has been a change in what the writers would like to focus on.
He shared, “I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,” Cavill wrote. “After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that.”
Who will be taking over from Henry?
Even though he will not be the face of Superman in the new film installment, Henry Cavill relayed that the character in itself will still exist. He added that the values of the character will still continue on.
“Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there!” he wrote. “My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards.”
James Gunn, who wrote all of The Guardians of the Galaxy films will be part of the writing team for the Superman film. The new direction, as shared by Gunn will focus on an earlier part of Superman’s life. However, it is important to note that this will not be an origin story.
“Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill,”
There is currently no news on who will take over this role. As the decision. More informal was only recently made. More information on the film will only become available in the new year.
