The Department of Basic Education has announced that Matric exam results will no longer be published on any media platforms.
Matrics will only be able to get their results at their school
The notice further stated that matric results will still be available at schools as in previous years.
“As was also the practice in previous years, all learners will be required to obtain their statement of results from the schools they attended. In this way, every learner’s personal information with regards to the outcome of their National Senior Certificate exam will be protected.”
The Department of Education recognises POPIA
According to education authorities, the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) has been recognised. This act came into effect in July 2021 and sets out to “promote the protection of personal information processed by public and private bodies”.
Thus, “dissemination” of the matric students‘ personal information would mean violating the POPIA. And previously, pupils’ identity numbers and exam numbers were published – which is a direct violation.
All matric exam results will be available at schools on the 21st of January 2022.
