The South African Weather Service has sent out a warning to South Africans about a heatwave. This is expected to last throughout the week.
The weather forecast for this week
South Africans will be gearing up for some hot weather in the next few days. However, the temperatures will reach a high which will therefore lead to a heatwave.
During this time, the South African Weather Service relayed that a heatwave can lead the body to be unable to sweat regularly. It is therefore pivotal to find different ways to stay cool and avoid staying in the heat for too long.
In extremely warm weather conditions, individuals are also prone to heat stroke. When this occurs, it is important to seek medical attention as this condition can be fatal if it is not treated.

The areas affected are:
- Ladismith
- Beaufort West
- Prince Albert
- Oudtshoorn
- Laingsburg
- Clanwilliam
- Paarl
- Worcester
Now, the discomfort due to the humidity is expected to last throughout the day. It’s important to note that the heat wave can persist throughout the rest of the week as well.

One of the highest temperatures in the Western Cape is currently in Prince Albert. The city will be reaching a temperature high of 39 degrees. With Oudtshoorn and Beaufort West trailing behind with temperatures of 38 and 27 respectively.
This Thursday, temperatures will slightly go down. Beaufort West temperatures will go as high as 36 degrees, while Prince Albert will go down by two degrees. Oudtshoorn will go down by 8 degrees at 30 degrees.
The latest heatwave warning is the second warning for the month of January. South Africans were previously alerted of a heatwave that could potentially cause hyperthermia. While hyperthermia can be treated at home, it is best to seek medical attention urgently when the body reaches this state.
