The parents of prison escapee, Tshepiso Kwenampe of Dinokana, near Zeerust, brought him back to the police on Tuesday night. Kwenampe was one of the five suspects who had escaped from the Zeerust Police station after overpowering a police officer and got hold of the prison cell keys from the officer which led to their escape.

Tshepiso Kwenampe to appear in court

Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, the North West Police spokesperson said Kwenampe, 22, will be appearing at the Zeerust Magistrates Court on Thursday to face a charge of escaping from lawful custody. The police are still searching for Jushua Sibanda, 39, Amogelang Motsiane, 36, Bengu Hlanganage, 31, and Enoch Lebeloane, 46, who are still at large after escaping from the Zeerust police station on Sunday.

“At the time of escape, the detainees were, among others, facing charges of house robbery, rape, attempted murder, business robbery, and aggravated robbery,” said Mokgwabone.

He appealed to the members of the community not to take matters into their own hands and try to arrest or apprehend the four remaining missing suspects in case they see them, but to rather call the police immediately as the suspects are presumed to be very dangerous.

How the public can help with the prison escapees

If members of the community see the wanted suspects they can alternatively call the investigating officer Captain Basimane Molefe on 076-510-8285. Anonymous tip-offs can be communicated through the MySAPS or people with information can call the crime stop number 08600-10111. The police thanked the parents of Kwenampe for handing him over.
