Not only is this year’s jubilee special as it marks 70 years of Queen Elizabeth’s reign, but she will also be the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.
So, of course, this type of achievement should be given more than one celebration – four days of celebrating to be precise! Buckingham Palace has announced a list of “commemorative events and initiatives” to take place, starting June 2.
“The [public] holiday will provide an opportunity for communities and people throughout the United Kingdom to come together to celebrate the historic milestone,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson says. “The four days of celebrations will include public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection on the queen’s 70 years of service.”
Platinum Party at the palace and Pageants in the streets
On June 4, a Platinum Party at the Palace concert will be hosted, featuring many celebrities and performers to come together and “celebrate some of the most significant moments from the Queen’s reign.”
And to make things even more interesting, members of the public stand a chance to attend this spectacular Buckingham Palace event through a special ballot launching in February.
On the following day, June 5, the official Platinum Jubilee Pageant will take place on the streets of London with performances and dancers.
It is said that the British military will also come together to share stories of the queen’s reign using “pomp and ceremony, street arts, theatre, music, circus, costumes as well as cutting-edge visual technology”.
A royal bake-off
A nationwide baking competition will be held as part of dedicating a brand new dessert to the queen. And any UK resident over the age of 8 is invited to create “the perfect Platinum Pudding recipe”.
The desserts will then be presented to The Great British Bake Off’s Mary Berry, Buckingham Palace head chef, Mark Flanagan, and New Zealand chef Monica Galetti.
What will hopefully be a new British favourite dessert for generations to come, will then be served at Big Jubilee Lunches during the weekend of celebrations.
Over the special Bank Holiday weekend, communities across the UK are invited to host a Big Jubilee Lunch, to share friendship, food and fun with neighbours – and also serve the brand-new Platinum Pudding!

The whole Royal family to take part in the Jubilee activities
All members from the royal family are also expected to participate in the joyous jubilee activities, including Prince William and Duchess Kate, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Countess Sophie.
There are even rumours that Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle will travel to join the festivities in June. However, it all depends on the Covid-19 restrictions at the time.
