Eskom confirmed in a statement that this week’s blackout saga will end with stage 2 loadshedding.
Stage 2 loadshedding in effect until Friday
The national power supplier was happy to announce that increased technical work on repairing power generation units at a number of plants yielded positive results and, therefore, there was no longer a need to continue with rotational power cuts over the weekend.
“Eskom is pleased to announce that loadshedding will be reduced to stage 2 starting at 12:00 today (Thursday), and will then be suspended at 05:00 on Friday. This has been made possible by the return to service of many of the units that had suffered breakdowns over the past two weeks, and a sufficient recovery in emergency generation reserves,” the power utility wrote.
At the time this article was published, Eskom’s total breakdowns had been reduced to 11 224MW, down from 17 933MW recorded on Friday 5 November 2021.
The state-owned utility also had 7 030MW on planned maintenance.
“Eskom thanks all our customers for their patience and assistance during this period of loadshedding. We appeal to all South Africans to continue using electricity sparingly and to switch off non-essential items. Taken together, these small cumulative savings result in large savings in electricity capacity and reduce the possibility of loadshedding,” the power utility added.
Should a need arise to implement rotational power cuts, Eskom vowed to issue a notice in due time. However, more than likely, there should be no loadshedding this weekend.
