The Department of Education has launched the second phase of its employment initiative with the youth encouraged to apply for teacher and general school assistants’ posts.
How to apply for teacher assistants job in South Africa
In a statement released on Sunday, the department noted that applications for these positions will open on Monday and close on Sunday 3 October 2021.
This opportunity is open to South African citizens aged between 18 and 35 who are:
- living with a disability;
- you women who are within the prescribed age group;
- not currently in educational training or studying towards an education degree or certificate; and
- not receiving any form of government grant.
To apply for the teacher assistants and general helper positions, candidates must:
- visit sayouth.mobi (the website takes eons to load, so be patient);
- sign up and create a profile;
- fill in and submit your application.
“No walk-ins will be allowed in schools due to COVID-19 restrictions. Applicants must submit their applications online,” the education department stressed.
What are the requirements?
The employment initiative looks to hire more than 287 000 unemployed youths in the second phase. About 192 000 vacancies have been made available in the teacher assistants post, while around 95 000 openings are available in the general school helpers role.
The starting date for the new recruits will be on 1 November 2021 and the programme will run for a period of five months. These are the positions currently available:
- Education Assistant (curriculum)
- Education Assistant (ICT/e-Cadres)
- Education Assistant (Reading Champions)
- General School Assistant (Child and Youth Care Worker)
- General School Assistant (Handyman) – this position does not require a metric certificate. Trade qualifications will be an added advantage.
- General School Assistant (Sports and Enrichment Agent) – this position does not require a metric certificate. Trade qualifications will be an added advantage.
“To work in the education environment, you must have a good ability to work with people, and within groups, have good communication skills and be a good listener and have interest in academics,” the education department noted.
