Ramaphosa spoke with Vladimir Putin
President Cyril Ramaphosa had been approached to mediate the Russian and Ukraine conflict due to relations with Russia through the BRICS alliance. And on Thursday, Ramaphosa spoke with Putin.
According to the president, he told Putin that the only way this conflict can be resolved is through negotiations and mediation. Furthermore, it was said that Putin “appreciated” South Africa’s balanced approach after abstaining from the United Nations General Assembly vote.
Eskom aims to have five generating units fixed by Monday
Eskom has given an update regarding the reasons behind this week’s load shedding schedule and has confirmed that they are experiencing to have at least five generating units operational by Monday afternoon.
However, the recovery is still not fast enough to pull the country back from stage 2 load shedding. The power utility has announced that South Africa will have to deal with stage 2 over the weekend.
Raymond Zondo appointed as SA’s new Chief Justice
On Thursday, President Cyril Ramaphosa officially appointed Deputy Chief Justice and chair of the state capture inquiry Raymond Zondo as the country’s new chief justice.
After interviewing each one of the four candidates, the JSC recommended Justice Mandisa Maya for the position of chief justice. However, President Ramphosa had the deciding vote and revealed that she would be deputy chief justice instead.
