South Africa’s fate lies with China
According to political analyst, Daniel Silke, South Africans should brace themselves for rising commodity prices and supply shortages due to the ongoing battle between Russia and Ukraine.
Much of the country’s fate and the global economy now rests with Chinese President Xi Jinping as he needs to decide whether he will abide by Russia’s request for military and economic assistance.
And Silke further explained that the most significant effect the war will have on South Africa in the long term is rising fuel and transportation costs.
Transport companies to strike for three days
Uber, Bolt, InDriver and Didi drivers in South Africa are planning to disrupt major roads and “critical institutions” as part of a three-day strike. The main purpose behind the strike is to call for regulation of the e-hailing industry.
According to the founder of the Private Public Transport Association, the e-hailing platforms exploit drivers. And thus drivers are unhappy with the pay and over-saturation of the market.
Concerns around Queen Elizabeth’s health rises
Queen Elizabeth’s health started being a topic of concern in October 2021 when she had to spend some time in hospital. And in February 2022, the Queen tested positive for Covid-19. But luckily she only experienced “mild, cold-like symptoms”.
And even though the Queen has recovered from Covid, many are still concerned for her health and have even commented on her looking frail the last few months.
Her Majesty is now using a walking stick but clearly still does not want to show any “weakness” to the public.
