Covid is far from becoming endemic
On Thursday 14 April, the World Health Organization (WHO) stated that Covid-19 is still far from becoming an endemic disease. And people must not forget that the disease can still cause large epidemics around the world.
“We’re still in the middle of this pandemic. We all wish that we weren’t. But we are not in an endemic stage.”
WHO added that in the case that vaccination levels drop, epidemics can break out again. This is still the case for diseases such as measles.
And at the current rate, there are still too many Covid related deaths which the organisation said is still too high.
Taxi industry reminded of safety belts
Gauteng Transport MEC Jacob Mamabolo has called upon the taxi industry to remind both drivers and passengers to wear safety belts at all times.
This call on action comes amidst the Easter Weekend as law enforcement will be focused on the roads.
“They are not there for display. They are meant to save the lives of both drivers and passengers.
“Taxi drivers usually wear their safety belts except for their passengers. When an accident happens, the driver is at times safe except for passengers who might lose their lives or sustain serious injuries.
Mthembu family not ready to mourn another member
On Thursday 14 April, the late African National Congress (ANC) minister Jackson Mthembu’s wife, Thembi Mthembu passed away in a hospital in Pretoria.
“She was not well for the last couple of weeks. She lost her life in hospital. To open up the wounds, we lost Jackson last year.”
