KZN flood damage continue to raise a financial concern
The authorities of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) are continuing to tally up the total cost of the damage that was caused by the severe flooding.
And thus far, the damage to water and sanitation infrastructure is already over R1 billion. And damage to rail infrastructure is roughly estimated at around R950 million.
KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala has promised that everyone who lost their homes in the devastating floods will have temporary shelters by the end of this week.
Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality involved in an R25.6 million fraudulent case
Recently, the National Prosecuting Authority in the Eastern Cape discovered multiple cases that involved fraud and corruption.
Most of the cases involve municipal officers who work in informal consortiums and by collaborating with service providers, money is siphoned from the public.
And one of the worst cases includes the loss of R25.6 million during a three-year tender contract that was issued by The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. The contract was meant for an environmental impact assessment and was meant to pay the company R350 an hour.
However, the first invoice showed an amount of R1 million within the first 24 hours of the appointment.
