Two subvariants of Omicron increasing in positive Covid cases
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases has been analysing the recent rising positive Covid-19 tests in South Africa and found that the two subvariants of Omicron, BA.4 and BA.5, have increased.
Overnight, the presence of the variants has increased from 16% to 44% overnight.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), there is no evidence as of yet which shows that the variants have increased the severity of symptoms or immune escape.
Busiswe Mavuso walks out of Eskom meeting after blaming ANC
A board member of Eskom Busiswe Mavuso is making headlines after she spoke up during a Scopa meeting last week.
During the meeting, Mavuso insisted that Eskom, including CEO Andre De Ruyter, would not be made the “fall guy” for the power utility’s many problems. And instead, she blamed the ANC-led government.
The Scopa chair, Mkhuleko Hlengwa, commented that her remarks were “theatrics” and didn’t address the main issue.
All R350 SRD grant applicants to REAPPLY
The Department of Social Development has recently announced that those in need would have to reapply for the R350 Social relief of distress (SRD) grant. This comes as the government starts to move away from the national state of disaster framework.
All applicants will need to apply online, even if they have been approved for the grant before. There are various online platforms where potential beneficiaries can apply.
