Ukraine President giving Ramaphosa the cold shoulder
It has been more than ten days after President Cyril Ramaphosa has requested a phone call with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. The phone call is set to discuss South Africa’s possible mediation efforts, however, Zelensky has not given any indication whether he will be speaking to Ramaphosa.
According to diplomatic sources, Zelensky is unhappy with South Africa’s stance at the UN General Assembly – when Ramaphosa has twice now refused to support resolutions against Russia.
Update on Chinese plane crash
On 21 March, a Boeing 737-800 jet plane with over 120 passengers crashed into a mountainside in Southern China and as of yet, no one knows why.
There were 123 passengers on board and nine crew members.
The latest information made known comes from the deputy director-general of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, Hu Zhenjiang:
“The identity of 120 victims has been determined by DNA identification.”

Russian gas supplier considering to secure natural gas for South Africa
Gazprombank, which is a state-owned Russian gas supplier, has confirmed that the company is considering a bid for a multibillion-rand contract for SA to secure natural gas.
However, if the bid is awarded, the contract would definitely raise quesitons regarding the need for gas and if it is influencing South Africa’s stance on the conflicts between Russia and Ukraine.
