SASSA discovered R12.6 mil paid to state employees as grants
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has recovered R12.6 million was paid to more than 3000 public servants who did not qualify for the grants.
The Department of Social Development found that 3 268 public servants received these payments and News24 has further reported that, thus far, there have been no consequences for those who have received the grants.
The UIF and PIC lose billions
R1.8 billion has been lost by the UIF and PIC after investing in a company – Bounty Brands – that was deep in debt and made this information hard to find through a complicated corporate structure.
The company was started by Coast2Coast Capital, an equity firm. The firm however didn’t take long to get into trouble and started making huge amounts of debt.
The Daily Maverick reported that SA’s public funds started getting involved through different dealings between the PIC/UIF and other investment firms which then took a stake in the company.
