The DA’s motion of no confidence in the Cabinet has failed
The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) motion of no confidence in President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Cabinet has failed in the National Assembly.
Deputy Speaker Lechesa Tsenoli said: “Honourable members, the outcomes are as follows: there’s one abstention, 131 yes, and 231 no. The motion is therefore not agreed to.”
And the ATM’s motion of no confidence in Ramaphosa was withdrawn earlier in the day after the party refused to move the motion for debate. However, the motion may be tabled at a later stage.
R89 million stolen from Postbank
More than R89 million was stolen through SASSA accounts from the state-owned Postbank between 16 – 28 October 2021. The cash was stolen by unknown individuals that were either employed by Postbank or as contactors.
This is the second major security breach since the SA Post Office and its subsidiary, Postbank, took the social grant system over in 2018.
And according to a commission that looked into the cyber breach, it would have needed a “large coordinated effort”, thus it was likely an “insider threat”.
Sibongile Mani sentenced to jail after R14 million was accidentally credited to her
Sibongile Mani, a student of Walter Sisulu University (WSU), has been sentenced to five years imprisonment after spending R800 000 of the R14 million that was accidentally credited to her account by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) in 2017.
Mani spent more than R800 000 in 73 days. And Magistrate Olivier accused her “shopping spree” of coming from a place of “greed not need” as she didn’t spend the money on essentials items.
