Will South Africa have to brace for Stage 8 Loadshedding?
Now with half of Eskom’s coal-fired generation capacity already being offline, Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan questioned the possibility of Stage 8 loadshedding – which could mean blackouts could last as long as 13 hours.
In the meantime the Democratic Alliance (DA) has suggested that Eskom be declared a “state of disaster”, however, Gordhan was opposed to this.
If Eskom were to be declared as such, it would allow provinces and municipalities to make use of alternative sources of power.
South Africa’s motorist licence issues continue
The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has warned that any motorist who missed the 5 May deadline to renew their driving licence is now advised to get temporary licences.
The RTMC revealed that 1.3 million licences had not been renewed and that law enforcement would not hesitate to “apply the law” from this week further.
It was further said that licence centres are reportedly working extended hours in order to keep up with the demand.

While petrol vehicle owners are in for a slight decline in price this month, diesel vehicle owners will have to deal with yet another increase.
