Over the past week, South Africans have endured somewhat of a stormy time. This comes after the summer season was riddled with a few Thunderstorms. But fret not, you may not need to stay indoors this Christmas.

The forecast over the next few days

The South African Weather Service has shared some insight into what the next few days will look like. Judging by the forecast over the next few days there is a likelihood that South Africa will face more rainy days. Just last week, Durban and Johannesburg faced the worst thunderstorms this year. The heavy downpour caused damage to the infrastructure and led to some Durban beaches closing in risk of contracting e.coli.

But, the good news is that some beaches have been reopened which means these beaches can be visited over the festive season.

While the South African Weather Service has sent out a Yellow Level 2 warning for KwaZulu-Natal, South Africans can expect more sunny days over the next few days. The SAWS also noted that these thunderstorms present a possible threat to infrastructure and vehicles on the roads. Local settlements will also face the possibility of floods.

Popular cities such as Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, Durban, and Bloemfontein to name a few, will experience scorching weather from Wednesday into Thursday. That is, despite the Thunderstorms that will be underway this week.

What will the weather be on Christmas?

From Tuesday onward, the temperatures in these cities will range from 24 degrees up to 40 degrees. However, while cloudy days will persist, the weather will still be rather warm.

With that being said, Christmas day looks promising in terms of weather. If you’ve got yourself a summer dress or anything short-sleeved, you’re good to go!

As load-shedding still persists, there might be a possibility that families may not have the Christmas they want this year. The country is currently in stage 4 load-shedding until further notice. With this in mind, it will be useful to seek other avenues this weekend.

Now, cities such as Bloemfontein, Johannesburg, and East London will face some Thunderstorms right into the weekend but the temperatures in the respective cities will still be at a high. So it will rain but it won’t be as cold. This is not ideal weather but we’re hopeful that it won’t last all day!
