The president of AmaZulu, Sandile Zungu, has confirmed that coach Benni McCarthy has officially parted ways with the club.
McCarthy is reported to have parted ways on Friday, 25 March. And according to Zungu, the reason for this “drastic decision” is the recent tough run during the DStv Premiership.
“That’s absolutely correct, although it’s premature because we were going to release a media statement, but it’s true,” Zungu said.
“Benni did a fantastic job from the time he came into the team. He took the team from a very low position in the previous season to the top two finish.
“He also led the team to the Caf Champions League group stages, but it’s true that the performance overall this season has been very mediocre in comparison to what we were beginning to be accustomed to at AmaZulu.”

Benni McCarthy to be replaced with an interim coach for now
Furthermore, Zungu said that it is only McCarthy who has left from the technical team. And an interim coach is set to take over until the end of the season. The interim coach has not yet been announced.
McCarthy joined the AmaZulu club in October 2020 after being jobless for some time. This follows his being fired by Cape Town City in 2019.
And so far, AmaZulu hasn’t won a league match yet in 2022 and got knocked out of the Nedbank Cup. And it seems with 14 draws for this season alone, they are so close and yet so far.
