“Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire, it has the power to unite people in a way that little else does.” those are the words that were spoken by Nelson Mandela. SA Rugby asked people to link hands with Rugby’s Caring Hands.
“If you can’t get out of the office to join the masses who plan to volunteer on Mandela Day – Monday 18 July – then please consider joining our #supportsquad and help us exceed our goal of reaching 2000 people with a donation of just R67.00,” SA Rugby said in the statement.
The Springboks, Blitzboks and their management all agreed to contribute to this great initiative, as well as all staff members on SA Rugby’s payroll.

Their goal of raising R134 000.00 will help to cover the costs of secondary specialised rehabilitation sessions for three of our recipients:
- Simnikiwe Bosman (17) from Grahamstown (EC) is receiving specialised training in Cape Town for two weeks during the school holidays at The Enable Centre
- Roselt du Plessis (34) from Prince Alfred Hamlet near Ceres (WC) is also in Cape Town this week for intense rehab at Walking with Brandon
- De Wet Venter (44) from Johannesburg trains twice a week at Ajustibility
The importance of secondary rehabilitation for those living with a disability is significant and often life-changing.
It improves functionality, can reduce health complications associated with mobility impairment, encourages independence for life’s daily activities, and makes a huge difference to the mental and emotional wellbeing of the recipients.
