This easy dessert is perfect for any special occasion and is versatile as illustrated in the two images. This South African inspired trifle is laced with the good stuff, Amarula Cream Liqueur. You could use your preferred non-alcoholic drink / punch / aperitif / spirit instead, or you could just use fresh orange juice.
Ingredients:

- 150ml Amarula cream or your preferred liqueur – optional
- 250ml fresh cream whipped to soft peaks for topping
- 200ml cream cheese whipped with the cream (optional)
- 1 packet boudoir biscuits or sponge cake of your choice, cut in cubes
- 360g Nestlé Caramel Treat for filling and topping
- 1 packets of jelly powder different flavours, like strawberry and orange for contrast to compliment your fruit
- Fresh fruit of your choice, such as berries, kiwi, mango, pineapple, or grapes
- 1½ liters custard store-bought or homemade
- chopped nuts e.g., almonds, hazelnuts, or pecans
Trifle Assembly Instructions
- Layer the base
Place boudoir biscuits or sponge cake cubes in a deep glass bowl. Lightly drizzle with Amarula or your preferred liqueur. - Add caramel and jelly
Spread Caramel Treat over the base. Top with chopped jelly cubes. - Layer fruit and custard
Add fresh fruit, then custard. Repeat layers until ingredients are used. If using cream cheese, add a cream layer between fruit and custard. - Finish with cream and nuts
Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with chopped nuts. Garnish with extra fruit or cocoa powder. - Chill and serve
Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.

Decadent Trifle with Fresh Fruit and Amarula Liqueur

- 1 tin caramel treat for filling and topping
- 2 packets jelly powder 2 different flavours
- fresh fruit of your choice and in season e.g. berries, bananas, or kiwis are delicious
- 1 cup chopped nuts for garnish
- 1½ liters of custard (homemade or store-bought optional, homemade custard you can thicken
- 1 cup optional – cherries fresh or glazed
Method:
- Prepare the jelly: Follow the instructions on the jelly packet and allow it to set completely.
- Optional – making homemade custard: Make your custard and cool.
- Here are a few tips for trifle:
Chill the bowl before whipping cream to get a nice, stable whip.
Sweeten lightly, if you like, with a bit of powdered sugar or vanilla extract.
Layer carefully to keep the distinct layers visible for that beautiful trifle look!
- Start the layering: Place the ladyfinger biscuits at the bottom of a deep glass bowl.
- drizzle the Amarula Cream Liqueur over the biscuits to moisten them.
- Add the Caramel: Spread a generous layer of caramel treat over the moistened biscuits.
- Add the jelly: Chop up the set jelly and layer it on top of the caramel.
- Layer the Fruit and Custard: Add a layer of fresh fruit, followed by a layer of custard.
- Repeat the layers: Continue layering the ingredients until all are used, ending with a layer of custard on top.
- Final touches: Cover with whipped cream and sprinkle chopped nuts for decoration and cherries if you choose to do so.
