The list of reasons to visit Cape Town is truly endless, but seeing the Twelve Apostles Mountain Range in person should definitely be at the top.

This massive beauty showcases a range of magnificent ridges, gorges and nature. And of course, it’s filled with the best hiking trails where the most glorious views can be appreciated.

The Twelve Apostles Mountain Range runs 6km from Kloof Nek – between Table Mountain and Lion’s Head – all the way to Hout Bay. And all along with the series of mountains, Victoria Road leads the way between the mountain and the Atlantic Ocean.

Each mountain peak has it’s own name

All though there seems a bit of uncertainty regarding the exact amount of peaks, most people agreed on there being 12 peaks. But it actually depends on how you count – thus, many people will argue that there are actually 18 peaks. But whether you count 12 or 18, soon you’ll be overwhelmed by the amazing view that it won’t matter.

And each mountain peak of the Apostles has been given a name. From North to South, the peaks are called:

  • Kloof
  • Fountain
  • Porcupine
  • Jubilee
  • Barrier
  • Valken
  • Kasteel
  • Postern
  • Wood
  • Spring
  • Slangolie
  • Coridor
  • Speration
  • Victoria
  • Grove
  • Llandudno Peak
  • Llandudno Corridor
  • Hout Bay Corner

Twelve Apostles make for the perfect hike

With the Twelve Apostles rising from the Atlantic Ocean, it offers incredible adventures and hiking trails, peace and quiet and of course, the best views in town!

One of the main reasons why experienced hikers enjoy hiking the Apostles is for the silence. Set away from the city buzz and on less frequented visited parts of the mountain, hikers can get a real sense of solitude.

And for those obsessed with nature – you’re in for a treat! The amount of plant species on Table Mountain alone is staggering and plant lovers will be entertained for hours.

The hiking trails on the Twelve Apostles Mountain Range varies from straightforward hiking to adventuring off-the-beaten-track.

Post-hike entertainment

Once you’ve finished exploring the top of the mountain, why not continue exploring below the mountain?

The drive along Victoria Road is truly breathtaking around sunset time as everyone can perfectly see the sun setting over the sea. Stop at one of the beautiful beaches or grab a cocktail while appreciating the stunning mountains and ocean.
