Government going against scientific advisers
After documents have been leaked, it was revealed that the government’s latest regulations for managing the pandemic goes against the recommendations from scientific advisers.
And the biggest difference between the two is when it comes to travelling, the advisory committee suggested getting rid of the Covid-19 testing and screening of all visitors coming to South Africa. However, the government instead has opted to exempt only vaccinated travellers from requiring a PCR test.
Taxis block N2 in Cape Town as part of strike action
On Thursday morning, the N2 highway had major backlogs as taxi associations affiliated to the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) and Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (Codeta) embarked on the strike.
Taxi operators planned on marching to Premier Alan WInde’s office in order to voice their grievances over the impoundment of taxis and other issues affecting the industry.
And according to a CATA spokesperson, roughly 2000 taxi operators were expected to depart from Nyanga and Khayelitsha to take part in the strike.
