Warning: Heatwave to last in Kwa-Zulu Natal till Tuesday

The South African Weather Service warned that a heatwave will take over central and eastern parts of Kwa-Zulu Natal for three days.

Kwa-Zulu Natal will experience scorching weather from Monday until Tuesday evening this week. 

The current weather temperatures will range from 32 to 39 degrees over the next two days. The South African Weather Service relayed that hyperthermia is likely to occur for some individuals. It is important to seek medical attention if this does happen.

Weather in Kwa-Zulu Natal

In their weather advisory, the South African Weather Service relayed that this warning will be in place from Sunday at midnight until Tuesday at 8 pm.

Areas affected are as follows:

  • Pennington – 36 degrees
  • Ulundi – 34 degrees
  • Ladysmith – 32 degrees
  • Richards Bay – 32 degrees
  • Pietermaritzburg – 36 degrees
  • Ixopo – 36 degrees
  • Stanger – 34 degrees
  • Margate – 32 degrees
  • Greytown – 34 degrees
  • Eshowe – 35 degrees

  • Hyperthermia
  • Respiratory conditions
  • Excessive sweating

Now, when temperatures go above 32 degrees, the body’s natural ability to cool down will be affected. This is a result of excessive sweating. There are ways to cool yourself down and this includes using ice packs and the like. However, with the risks of getting heatstroke, it is essential to seek medical attention as this can be fatal.

The current weather in Kwa-Zulu Natal has been rather up and down in the past month. The province was previously placed on Orange Level 9 in the midst of possible floods taking place earlier this month. 

In the weather for Tuesday, temperatures in the province will reach a high in Kwa-Zulu Natal. Cities that have been excluded in the weather for Monday will experience higher temperatures on Tuesday. These include:

  • Royal Nat Castle – 34 degrees
  • Vryheid – 36 degrees
  • Utrect – 36 degrees
  • Underberg – 34 degrees
  • Kokstad – 33 degrees
  • Greytown – 39 degrees
  • Durban – 36 degrees
  • Newcastle – 37 degrees

During this time, it is advised to avoid strenuous activities whenever you can avoid them. In the meantime, Gauteng is also on alert for a heatwave. The temperatures will range from 32 degrees, with the highest being 36 degrees.
