South Africa is the first market to receive the new Nissan Tekton, a compact SUV styled after the flagship Patrol. It went on sale on Monday, 21 September 2026 in five models priced from R339 999 to R529 999, all with turbo-petrol engines.
The Tekton was launched in Pretoria at a three-day Nissan festival that included an African Media Day, an investor conference and the South African Dealer of the Year gala. It joins the Magnite and the recently introduced X-Trail. The upgraded Navara, a special-edition X-Trail and the eighth-generation Patrol are scheduled for this fiscal year, with the Patrol due in the first quarter of 2027 with a turbocharged petrol V6 producing 317 kW and 700 Nm. The Tekton uses C-shaped LED connecting headlamps with daytime running lights, a full-width chrome-accented grille, a squared-off bonnet, flush roof rails and SynchroFlow C-shaped connected LED tail lamps above a double-C contrast skid plate. All models have LED lights front and rear, 17-inch or 18-inch wheels and 212 mm of ground clearance. The Tekton is built in Chennai, India, at an export hub supplying 50 markets across the Middle East and Africa.
Tekton engines and gearboxes
The entry model uses a 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder with 74 kW and 160 Nm, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. The other four models use a 1.3-litre turbo four-cylinder with 260 Nm, driving the front wheels through a dual-clutch transmission. Nissan lists this engine at 120 kW in its specifications, though its launch summary quotes 115 kW.
Tekton cabin, boot space and safety
The boot holds 700 litres, rising to 1 789 litres with the rear seats folded. Every model has a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster and an e-shifter with paddle shifters, while all but the Visia 1.0 have an electronic parking brake. The Tekna and Tekna+ add dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, push-button start, ventilated front seats, leatherette upholstery, a powered driver’s seat and two-tone paint, with a powered tailgate on the flagship.
Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, stability control, ABS with disc brakes all round, hill-start assist, rear parking sensors, a reversing camera and tyre-pressure monitoring. Higher grades add a Multi View Camera, rain-sensing wipers, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Traffic Sign Recognition, Front Collision Warning with Autonomous Emergency Braking and Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control.
Nissan Tekton price and warranty in South Africa
The Tekton is available immediately. The 1.0 Visia manual costs R339 999, the 1.3 Visia DCT R399 999, the 1.3 Acenta DCT R459 999, the 1.3 Tekna DCT R499 999 and the 1.3 Tekna+ DCT R529 999. All models come with a 6-year or 150 000 km mechanical warranty with roadside assistance and a 2-year or 60 000 km service plan. Two-tone Pearl White, Red, Silver, Blue and Moonbow (Grey) are offered on the Tekna and Tekna+.
