This black forest cake is a soft and creamy combination of chocolatey richness mixed with syrupy maraschino cherries and a tangy sugared cream cheese topping. Great for any celebration or even just to have as a little pick-me-up with something warm to drink.

A Quick Cake to Make

With minimal energy and just over 30 minutes, you can whip together this divine black forest cake. First, blend your eggs and sugar together. Then mix in your dry ingredients followed by the cocoa liquid, buttermilk, oil and vanilla. This tempting cake batter is then doused in cherry liqueur before making its way into the oven.

Once you have popped this delicious batter into bake, you can start mixing your cream cheese topping with its sweetener and whipped cream. The moment your cake has cooled you can smooth the creamy topping over it. With a finishing touch of cherries and chocolate flakes, this black forest cake is made even more enticing.

Black Forest Rewards

The hardest part of this entire process is not snacking all the way through. Although, licking out the bowls doesn’t count because that needs to be done anyway. Once you have abstained through it all, you will be blown away by the reward. This perfect combination of flavours and textures delivers an experience that will leave you daydreaming about it for days to come.

Ingredients
  

For the Tart

  • 1 ½ cups Sugar
  • 1 ½ cups Flour
  • ¾ cup Cocoa Powder
  • ¾ tsp Baking Powder
  • ¾ tsp Salt
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • ¾ cup Buttermilk
  • ¾ cup Hot Water
  • ¼ cup Vegetable Oil
  • 1 tsp Vanilla

For the Topping

  • Maraschino Cherries
  • 1 cup Chocolate Flakes
  • 50 ml Castor Sugar
  • 50 ml Cherry Liqueur
  • 250 ml Fresh Cream
  • 100 ml Cream Cheese

Instructions
 

  • Mix the hot water and cocoa powder together. Set aside.
  • Beat the eggs and sugar. Add the dry ingredients. Add the wet ingredients and mix well.
  • Pour into a greased oven pie dish, bake in a pre heated oven 180 degrees, for 35 minutes.
  • Pour the cherry liqueur over the hot cake.
  • Whip the fresh cream. Add the cream cheese and castor sugar.
  • Spread over the cooled cake. Decorate with the chocolate and cherries.
