Health Benefits of Lamb

Lamb meat is a very special kind of meat. With its own distinctive and much-loved flavour. But aside from its uniquely delicious taste, lamb also comes with various health perks. It is a great source of zinc, important for boosting the immune system. It is also full of omega 3 fatty acids, which, amongst other benefits, have wonderful anti-inflammatory properties. Lamb is also higher in protein than many other red types of meat and is rich in iron. To top all of this off, it’s a vitamin B powerhouse, particularly vitamin B12. All around, lamb is a great choice of meat.

Lamb and Mint Together

I really do love it when two flavours really speak to one another. And the combination of these lamb chops with mint sauce is the perfect example! There is no red meat that pairs as beautifully with mint as lamb does, and vice versa. Sure, other herbs, such as rosemary, still taste really good with lamb, but nothing can compare to the harmony of fresh mint and juicy lamb together.

Ingredients
  

  • 10 ml ground ginger
  • 80 ml chopped fresh mint
  • 60 ml chopped fresh coriander
  • 1 green chili
  • 2 ml five-spice powder or any spice of your choice
  • 15 ml honey
  • 60 ml rice wine vinegar
  • 125 ml oil
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 kg lamb chops

Instructions
 

  • Place the chops in a sealable bag, pour in 45 ml of the mint sauce, and leave to marinate in the fridge for an hour or more.
  • Preheat the grill to moderately high. Roast the chops for five minutes on each side.
  • Transfer the chops to plates and spoon over the remaining mint sauce. 
  • Serve with rice or boiled small potatoes.
