As we say goodbye to November and welcome in December, those of us who are social grant beneficiaries can look forward to our next payments.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released payment dates for December.

SASSA is responsible for distributing grants and allowances to disadvantaged people who require financial assistance, within the country.

Beneficiaries can receive their SASSA payments from selected supermarkets, such as Pick n Pay, Boxer, USave merchants, Checkers and Shoprite, and obtain this through their SASSA card, CashSend, or by getting the amount directly into their bank account.

As previously reported earlier this year, SASSA said it heard beneficiaries’ complaints about the previous payment schedule and decided to change it.

SASSA said if the second day of the month falls on a weekend or public holiday, the payment will take place on the following workday. Older person and the associated grants are paid first followed by disability grants and child grants.

Beneficiaries ca still collect their grants at South African Post Office (SAPO) branches.

Earlier in November, State owned bank institution Postbank issued an apology to SASSA grant beneficiaries after they could not access their grant monies at ATM’s and retailers nationwide due to a system glitch which affected payments.

Postbank then advised the social grant beneficiaries to proceed to withdraw social grants at all ATM’s and retail outlets nationwide that provide the cashback functionality which includes Shoprite, Checkers, USave, Pick n Pay and Boxer.
