After learning that the amount of citizens getting vaccinated in South Africa has had a significant decrease in the last month, the South African government has made most vaccine sites open to any walk-ins.

The number of vaccines administered per day has had a significant decrease from middle July 2021 to middle August 2021. On the 21st of July, for example, the amount administered for that day in Gauteng was around nearly 67 000. Whereas, if you take a look at the numbers for the 17th of August, it has fallen to almost 47 000. Gauteng isn’t the only province with fewer and fewer people getting vaccinated; it is being observed throughout the entire country.

Even though the vaccination sites are available for walk-ins, everyone will still have to register. Be sure to register either via USSD, WhatsApp, online or by phoning the national toll-free call centre.

At the current state of alert level 3, all people aged 35 and over are eligible to be vaccinated. In South Africa, there are four vaccines available: BioNTech Pfizer vaccine, CoronaVac vaccine, Johnson & Johnson vaccine, and Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine. No person will have to pay to get the jab. In the case that a person does not have medical aid, the government will cover the costs.

The South African government is urging all citizens to register and to get vaccinated. Take a look at the “Why COVID-19 vaccines should be mandatory in South Africa” article for more information.
