Grief and a hard journey sit at the heart of An Open Field, a short documentary from director Teboho Edkins. In March 2019, a Boeing 737 MAX crashed just six minutes after leaving Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, killing all 157 people on board. Among the victims was Max Thabiso Edkins, the filmmaker’s younger brother.
This trailer follows Edkins and his father as they travel together to the place where the plane went down, hoping to find something tangible in their grief. Netflix is behind the 38-minute film, which arrives on 7 June 2026 as a deeply personal project for its director.
