New Zealand filmmaker Peter Jackson brings J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy epic to the screen with The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, the first of three films. Elijah Wood plays Frodo Baggins, a Hobbit who learns that a ring left to him by Bilbo (Ian Holm) is the One Ring, capable of enslaving the world. Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Bean, Orlando Bloom and Cate Blanchett also star.
In this New Line Cinema trailer, a young Frodo is entrusted with the ancient Ring in his small Shire village. He must then set out on a quest to the Cracks of Doom, the only place it can be destroyed. Saruman (Christopher Lee) and the Dark Riders give chase, while the travellers face a troll, flying spies and Orcs. The movie arrived as a holiday 2001 release.
