Death-ray robotic ships rise after strange lightning storms
Freely adapting the classic H.G. Wells story, Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds is a science fiction thriller about an ordinary man caught in an alien attack. Tom Cruise plays Ray Ferrier, a divorced New Jersey dockworker who has his estranged kids, Rachel and Robbie, on weekends. Dakota Fanning and Justin Chatwin play the children, with Miranda Otto as his former wife Mary Ann and Tim Robbins also in the cast.
This Paramount Pictures trailer sets up a weekend visit that turns deadly. A series of strange lightning storms strikes the neighbourhood before robotic spaceships armed with death rays emerge nearby, the first wave of a full invasion of Earth. Ray then flees with his son and daughter from New York towards Boston, hoping to reach safety at Mary Ann’s parents’ house and learning to become the protector he never was.
