Sedan and Avant body styles make up the new RS 5 range introduced by Audi South Africa, which adds the brand’s first high-performance plug-in hybrid to its local line-up. The model joins the halo cars of the Four Rings and continues the company’s local product offensive.

RS 5 hybrid powertrain and performance
For the first time in an Audi RS production model, a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 is paired with an electric motor. Combined output is 470 kW and 825 Nm, enough for 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. Drive goes through an eight-speed tiptronic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive.
Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h as standard. The optional Audi Sport package raises that to 285 km/h and adds a sportier bumper design. A boost button delivers maximum acceleration for ten seconds, with a countdown in the driver display, and it works in any drive select mode.
Battery, electric range and charging
A lithium-ion battery with 22 kWh of usable capacity gives an electric range of between 78 and 84 kilometres. AC charging runs at up to 11 kW, and the battery also recovers energy while coasting and braking. Drivers can choose between EV and Hybrid modes, set a preferred state of charge with a digital slider and adjust regeneration in three stages using the steering wheel paddles.
New quattro drivetrain and RS chassis
The new quattro system with Dynamic Torque Control features the world’s first electromechanical torque vectoring system at the rear axle of a production vehicle, distributing torque between the rear wheels to improve cornering agility, traction and stability. It works with an RS sport suspension using twin-valve shock absorbers.
Audi drive select offers balanced, dynamic and RS sport modes. A further RS torque rear mode is approved only for closed courses.

Audi RS 5 design and equipment
Compared to the A5, the body is four centimetres wider on either side, front and rear. Standard equipment includes Gloss Black RS detailing, an RS sport exhaust with central oval tailpipes, darkened Matrix LED headlights and 20-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels in Platinum Grey. Options include 21-inch wheels in Platinum Grey Matte, Black Metallic and Neodymium Gold Matte, plus Gloss Carbon and Matte Carbon Camouflage styling packages, giving buyers of the Sedan and Avant in South Africa a range of ways to personalise the car.
