- Brand of the Year, Automobiles category.
- Global Tier recognition at World Branding Awards.
- Award presented at Hampton Court Palace, London.
- BYD vehicles present in over 120 countries.
Hampton Court Palace in London hosted the presentation at which BYD received the Brand of the Year title in the Automobiles category of the 2026-2027 World Branding Awards. The Chinese manufacturer of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles earned Global Tier recognition, the level reserved for brands with an international footprint.
How the World Branding Awards are judged
The awards are organised by the World Branding Forum, an international non-profit body that works to improve branding practice for professionals and consumers. Entrants are assessed through brand valuation, consumer market research and public online voting.
To qualify for the Global Tier, a brand must operate in at least 10 countries on three or more continents. The distinction therefore places the carmaker’s recognition at a global level rather than within a single national market.
Stella Li on the BYD award
Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, said the company was honoured to receive the recognition. “For BYD, building a brand means earning the trust of our customers through technology that makes a meaningful difference in their everyday lives,” she said, adding that the award encourages the firm to keep working with partners around the world to make sustainable mobility accessible to more people.
BYD technology and global reach
The company’s new-energy vehicles are now sold in more than 120 countries and regions. It develops pure electric and plug-in hybrid models, drawing on in-house work in batteries, electric motors, electronic controllers and automotive-grade semiconductors.
Central to its line-up are the Blade Battery and the Super Hybrid DM-i system. Founded in 1994 as a rechargeable battery maker, the group now also covers rail transit, new energy and electronics, with more than 30 industrial parks in China, the United States, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Hungary and India.
What comes next for the brand
The award is described as a further step in the brand’s international development. Looking ahead, the firm says it will keep its focus on technological development and on safe, efficient new-energy vehicles, guided by its stated vision to “Cool the Earth By 1°C”.
