Europe’s best-selling passenger car in 2024 and 2025 now comes with full hybrid power for the first time, as Dacia adds the hybrid 155 powertrain to both the Sandero and the Sandero Stepway. The Sandero has also been the continent’s No.1 choice among private buyers since 2017.
The system needs no plugging in. It manages petrol and electric power automatically, always starts in electric mode and can complete up to 80% of urban driving on electric power alone. Fuel consumption is up to 40% lower than an equivalent petrol engine.

Sandero hybrid 155 powertrain and performance
Already used elsewhere in the Dacia range, the hybrid 155 combines a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors, a traction motor and a high-voltage starter/generator, plus a 1.4kWh battery and an electrified automatic gearbox. That clutchless transmission has four gears for the petrol engine and two for electric operation, choosing between the combinations automatically.
Both models accelerate from 0-62mph in 8.3 seconds. Regenerative braking recovers energy when slowing and feeds it back into the battery, so the driver never has to think about recharging it.
Sandero and Sandero Stepway trim levels
In the UK, the hatchback comes in Expression and Journey trims. Expression includes a 10-inch Media Display touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB radio, air conditioning, cruise control with speed limiter, automatic lights and wipers, a reversing camera and YouClip mounting points. Journey adds a seven-inch digital driver display, Media Nav Live connected navigation, an Arkamys six-speaker 3D audio system, keyless entry, heated front seats and steering wheel, wireless charging and a Multiview camera.
The Stepway is offered in Expression and Extreme trims, with modular roof bars as standard. Extreme brings Extended Grip, a Multiview camera, Blind Spot Warning and Copper Brown exterior details.

Practicality and UK pricing
Boot space stands at 410 litres with the rear seats up and 1,455 litres with them folded, and both versions can tow a braked 1,100kg. The Stepway rides with 200mm of ground clearance. “Hybrid 155 fits that thinking perfectly,” said Lina Ribeiro, Dacia Brand Director for the UK, adding that there is “nothing extra to plug in or worry about.”
Orders open in the UK on 4 November 2026. On-the-road prices are £17 995 for the Sandero Expression and £19 295 for the Journey, while the Sandero Stepway costs £19 295 in Expression trim and £20 595 as the Extreme.
