- Seventh-generation N-Series trucks introduced locally.
- Built on new I-MACS global platform.
- NMR 250, NPS 300, NQR 550 models.
- NPR 400 CNG follows a year later.
- Two-year Isuzu Insight subscription standard.
Four models make up the initial South African line-up of the new N-Series light and medium-duty trucks from Isuzu Motors South Africa. Now in its seventh generation, the range sits on the all-new Isuzu Modular Architecture and Component System (I-MACS), a global platform designed to take multiple powertrain options, including alternative energy solutions.
In South Africa the immediate focus remains on clean diesel technology. Isuzu is testing compressed natural gas and battery electric variants, and bio-compressed natural gas is under evaluation as a future fuel. “The launch of the new N-Series is a statement of intent,” said Mpho Nkhumeleni, Department Executive, CV Sales, Revenue Generation SACU, Isuzu Motors South Africa.
N-Series models offered in South Africa
The NMR 250 AMT comes in short wheelbase and crew cab form, aimed at urban deliveries. Single and crew cab derivatives make up the NPS 300 AMT, which gets a new Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) tuned for off-road use, with built-in warnings and smoother control logic.
A compressed natural gas NPR 400 CNG, with manual or AMT gearboxes, is scheduled to arrive a year later and moves from Euro 4 to Euro 5. At the top of the medium-duty segment sits the new NQR 550, which offers increased payload capacity and is listed as Euro 2 compliant.
Engines, telematics and safety equipment
Euro 5 engines in the range use a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) after-treatment system, which removes the need for Ad Blue fluid. Each truck includes a two-year subscription to the Isuzu Insight fleet management portal, with business intelligence dashboards, service reminders and proactive alerts.
The cab is built to the ECE-R29 safety standard, and its front panel has energy-absorbing space to reduce injury to pedestrians in low-speed impacts. Bi-LED headlamps with daytime running lights, LED fog lamps and a new wet wiper system are standard.
Cab comfort and chassis changes
Inside, drivers get a more efficient air conditioner, a smaller steering wheel, a suspended accelerator pedal and a new mechanical suspension seat. The instrument cluster shows fuel economy and includes an engine hour meter, so no aftermarket unit is needed.
From the NPR 275 upwards, the chassis frame is wider at 850mm and taller, for greater stability and payload. Power-assisted braking has also been improved across all models.
