Formula E team Jaguar TCS Racing has confirmed the name of its GEN4 race car for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The new machine will be called the Jaguar I-Type 08, and it will compete from Season 2027 onwards.
Rather than starting afresh, the outfit has kept its existing naming pattern and given it a subtle evolution. The change is small on paper, but it links the team’s next racer with the newest model from the brand.
Jaguar I-TYPE racing name history
The team’s first challenger, the Jaguar I-TYPE 1, made its debut in 2016. Its Formula E race cars have carried the I-TYPE name from that car through to the Jaguar I-TYPE 7, which the team describes as its most successful competitor to date.
Over those years the name has built strong equity for the squad, which explains why it has been retained for the new generation of car instead of being replaced.
Why the I-Type 08 name has changed
Two details are different for the GEN4 era. The word ‘Type’ is now written in sentence case instead of capital letters, and a leading zero has been added in front of the number, giving I-Type 08 rather than a continuation of the earlier format.
Both adjustments reflect the recently revealed Jaguar Type 01. The racing car’s name now follows the same style as that model, bringing the team’s nomenclature in line with it.
I-Type 08 reveal and Madrid testing dates
The car itself has not yet been shown. Its reveal is scheduled for Tuesday, 10 November.
A public debut follows shortly afterwards at Formula E’s official pre-season testing, held at Circuito de Madrid Jarama in Madrid from Monday 16 to Friday 20 November 2026. That session marks the I-Type 08’s first public appearance ahead of its competition debut in Season 2027.
