British drivers Sam Bird and Abbi Pulling will stay with the Nissan Formula E Team for the 2026/27 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Bird continues as reserve and development driver and Pulling as rookie and simulator driver, alongside race drivers Oliver Rowland and Zane Maloney.
Bird joined the squad in November 2025, while Pulling started her role in June 2025. The team expects their knowledge of its powertrain to help as the series moves into the GEN4 era.
Sam Bird and his Formula E record
Having raced in Formula E since its first event in 2014, Bird is one of a small group of drivers to have won with all three generations of cars used in the series. He has 27 podium finishes, 12 of them wins, the most recent in São Paulo in Season 10 for a Nissan customer team.
According to Bird, much of the recent work has gone into setting up the simulator so that Rowland and Maloney get an accurate picture of the new car’s features.
Abbi Pulling builds Formula E experience
During the 2025/26 campaign, Pulling took part in the all-women’s test, Miami Rookie Free Practice and the Madrid Rookie Test. The 2024 F1 Academy champion is also racing in the 2026 GB3 Championship, where she won at Spa and added two podiums at Donington Park.
She described the track sessions as the highlight of her time with the team and said the new car “will be a challenge for everyone, but it looks very exciting and appealing to drivers.”
Nissan prepares for the GEN4 era
Team principal Tommaso Volpe said that “having drivers who know our simulator, our powertrain and the way we work will be important” in preparing for the new generation. Pulling will also get test days and will support the team before and during race weekends.
All four drivers will work together ahead of Pre-Season Testing at Circuito del Jarama in Spain from 16 to 20 November.
