Buyers hunting for an affordable small SUV now have a fresh option from R224 900, as Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and its partner Motus Holdings have started South African sales of the all-new Punch subcompact SUV in three derivatives.
The Punch pioneered the subcompact SUV category in India, where it has more than 800 000 customers and ranks among the country’s highest-selling vehicles. The new model brings updated technology, revised styling, improved safety and more standard equipment.

Tata Punch engines and transmissions
Pure+ and Adventure models use a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 65 kW and 115 N.m, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox and selectable City and Eco driving modes.
For the first time in South Africa, the range includes a turbocharged engine. The flagship Accomplished+ S gets a 1.2-litre turbo petrol unit making 88 kW and 170 N.m, matched to a six-speed manual and a dedicated Sport calibration.
Design and cabin of the new Punch
Outside, the SUV wears Powersight LED headlamps, a redesigned 3D grille, a Bull Guard bumper, Infinity Glow LED taillights and a Trail Guard rear skid plate. Wheel options include 16-inch Trailcrest alloys, with a contrasting roof and roof rails.
Inside, 90-degree Command Entry doors ease access, and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster sits ahead of the driver. An 8-inch touchscreen or 10.25-inch HD Harman system is fitted depending on derivative, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard. Rear air vents, wireless charging and front and rear USB-C ports are also included.
Safety and standard equipment
All derivatives carry six airbags, and the Punch holds a five-star Bharat NCAP rating. The Pure+ adds LED headlamps, a reversing camera and cruise control, while the Adventure brings a 360-degree camera, Blind View Monitor, automatic climate control and rain-sensing wipers. The Accomplished+ S adds larger screens and a voice-assisted sunroof.
Jeffrey Allison, General Manager of Marketing and Product at distributor Accordian Investments, said the Punch “helps democratize features that were once limited to vehicles from segments above.”
