- Largest partnership sum yet for the association.
- Total doubled from £500 000 in 18 months.
- UK corporate charity partner since 2021.
- Partnership extended for two years in 2025.
In just 18 months, the fund-raising total for the Motor Neurone Disease Association doubled from £500 000 to £1 million. It is the largest sum yet raised for the charity through a partnership. The money supports its work helping people living with and affected by motor neurone disease, as well as research into new treatments for the condition.
Why Toyota staff chose the MND Association
Employees selected the charity, known as MNDa, as the company’s UK corporate charity partner in 2021. They did so in memory of Rachel Rollason, a much-loved and respected colleague who suffered from MND.
The disease is a terminal neurological condition that affects up to 5,000 people in the UK at any one time.
How Toyota colleagues raised the money
Over the past five years, groups and individuals from Toyota (GB), Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK, Toyota Financial Services, Toyota Insurance Services and KINTO UK have taken part in a wide range of fund-raising efforts. Staff have cycled, baked, run marathons, walked and climbed mountains. Some have even taken soggy sponges to the face to bring in donations.
Reaction from the charity and Toyota (GB)
Tanya Curry, Chief Executive of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, said: “To become our first corporate partner to raise £1 million is an incredible achievement. Everyone at Toyota should be enormously proud of what they have accomplished.” She added that the partnership, inspired by Rachel’s legacy, had changed lives and raised awareness.
Luigi Ksawery Luca’, President and Managing Director of Toyota (GB), thanked the colleagues involved. “Their exceptional efforts and the great work done by the association have been inspirational, helping us reach this great total,” he said.
The cause captured the hearts and minds of people across Toyota’s UK businesses. As a result, the partnership was extended for a further two years in 2025.
