BYD’s flagship luxury brand, Yangwang, has unveiled the all-electric Altior at its global premiere in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The name comes from the Latin word for “higher”, while its Chinese name, Dingyao, links the ding, an ancient ceremonial bronze vessel, with the idea of radiance.
BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li said the car “brings together the depth of Chinese culture and our ambition to create something extraordinary”, adding that it “represents our vision for the future of Chinese luxury.”

Yangwang Altior design and dimensions
Developed over three years, the design draws on the ding for its grounded stance. It measures 5,600 mm long, 2,030 mm wide and 1,590 mm high on a 3,500 mm wheelbase, with twin character lines running for 4.8 metres along the body. Three 21-inch wheel designs are offered with 275/45 low-noise tyres.
Up front, a jewellery-style grille frames the oracle-bone-script emblem, and twelve lighting elements rotate and illuminate in sequence as the owner approaches. Coach doors open to 80 degrees at the front and 90 degrees at the rear, and house umbrellas inspired by the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests at the Temple of Heaven.
Four-seat cabin and materials
Inside, yellow Hetian jade trims the air vents, Suzhou embroidery is combined with perforated upholstery, and 48 decorative pieces sit across 11 locations. Rear passengers get 354 mm of knee room, 1,209 mm of legroom and two zero-gravity seats with mechanical massage. A 39-speaker Dynaudio Platinum Evidence system, a powered 21.4-inch overhead screen, front and rear refrigerators and a 532-litre luggage compartment complete the package.

Altior motors, suspension and driver assistance
The e⁴ Platform uses four independently controlled motors that adjust driving force more than 100 times per second, helping stability during events such as a high-speed tyre blowout. It also allows tank turns, and the car has emergency flotation capability should it enter water. The next-generation DiSus active body control system reads the road ahead and adjusts the suspension in real time.
The Altior is the first model with BYD’s 4 nm Xuanji A3 assisted-driving chip, which supports the God’s Eye A system, covering parking-space-to-parking-space, motorway, expressway and urban navigation assistance as well as parking assistance. Power comes from the Second-Generation Blade Battery.
