Inkatha Freedom Party is pushing for a fuel price hike debate
According to IFP’s MP Narend Singh, the ANC is “out of touch” with the needs of the public. This claim came after the Speaker’s Office refused to debate the fuel price and levies that have placed even more strain on citizens.
“It is of great disappointment to the IFP that the Speaker’s Office refused our request, and suggested we raise the matter directly in the House during the week’s Plenary sessions. Possibly, the Speaker was unaware – but the issue was raised during the week’s debates, yet the Deputy Minister of Finance flatly ignored the question.
“To further add insult to injury, the nation was then advised that the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) had made an error with the fuel price increase. This resulted in millions of South Africans paying even more than was necessary,” Singh said.
Four die in bus crash on their way to SA Netball championships
Tragedy hit on Sunday, 5 December, as a bus was transporting two teams and officials to Cape Town for the 2021 Spar National Championships.
The accident took place in Aberdeen, Eastern Cape, at about 04:00 in the morning and sadly, three players and one official lost their lives in the accident.
The championships are set to start in Bellville on Monday.
South Africans in the UK takes a stand against Shell
On Sunday, UK-based Africans took a stand and gathered outside of the SA embassy in London to object to Shell’s “seismic survey for oil and gas in SA”.
According to the UK protest organisers, Shell’s seismic exploration in the marine protected areas would mean “a complete marine ecosystem collapse”. This will then result in “disastrous effects on marine biodiversity and local indigenous communities, their livelihoods and tourism for the region”.
