Today’s Weather [WATCH]: Rain showers along the coast, clear inland – 13 September

South Africa sees a clear split in conditions today, with the coastal provinces bearing the brunt of wet weather as rain showers move through the Western Cape (16-21C) and Eastern Cape (15-19C), while Durban can expect slight rain with a mild 21-24C. Inland, it’s a far brighter picture, with Johannesburg enjoying mostly clear skies and a comfortable range of 11-26C, and the northern regions like Polokwane and Mbombela following suit, though Kimberley (12-30C) and Bloemfontein (9-28C) stay on the cloudy side. Several weather advisories are currently active from the South African Weather Service, so residents are encouraged to keep an eye on local updates and take care as conditions develop through the day.

Weather Advisory (Warning Advisory), valid until 23:59 on 14 September.
Areas: Grabouw, Garies, Pofadder, Springbok, Worcester, Prince Albert, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Paarl, George, Redelinghuys, Swellendam.

• 1. Intermittent showers and thundershowers from Sunday until Monday afternoon, heavy at times with possible large amounts of small hail and lightning.
• 2. Significant drop in temperatures over the high-lying areas.
• 3. Windy coastal and interior conditions.
• 4. Very rough seas (reaching 4.0 to 4.5 m south of Table Bay).

The public and small stock farmers are advised to take the necessary precaution to ensure the safety and health of their animals during very cold days. Limit outdoor activities and keep warm.

Impact-Based Warnings

• Yellow Level 2 Warning: Damaging Winds resulting in localised damage to formal and informal settlements as well as localised damage to temporary structures are expected over the north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape and western parts of the North West.
• Yellow level 1 Warning: Winds and Waves leading to difficulty in navigation at sea and small vessels at risk of capsizing, is expected between Table Bay and Cape Agulhas.

• A Cut-off low pressure system developing west of the country, is expected to affect the Western and Northern Cape provinces from Sunday into Monday (13-14/09/2026). The public and small stock farmers are advised that intermittent showers and thundershowers accompanied heavy downpours at times with possible large amounts of small hail and lightning, significant drop in temperatures over the high -lying areas, windy coastal and interior conditions as well as very rough seas (reaching 4.0 to 4.5 m south of Table Bay).
