The trailer in brief
Philomena Cunk tackles the entire history of cinema
Diane Morgan stars in the Netflix comedy special
Trailer teases questions on CGI and AI
Arrives on Netflix on 30 November 2026
Philomena Cunk is back in a new Netflix comedy special, this time turning her baffled gaze on film itself. Diane Morgan stars in Cunk on Cinema, which follows her as she quizzes experts with hard-hitting questions. The journey runs from the invention of the camera through the New Wave filmmakers of the 1960s to the arrival of CGI.
Lumpy seats and stale popcorn set the scene in the trailer, where Cunk tries to demystify the medium. She also wonders aloud what the future of AI holds, before landing on bigger puzzles: where cinema came from, why, what it wants, and why it can’t tell us. South African viewers can stream the special on Netflix from 30 November 2026.
